The role: As a Maintenance Specialist, you’ll lead maintenance activity across a defined geographical area, ensuring corrective and preventative maintenance is delivered safely, consistently and to industry best practice standards. You’ll play a key role in improving asset performance, reducing operational risk and supporting the wider Wholesale business to achieve its strategic goals through collaboration, data‑led decision making and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the delivery of corrective and preventative maintenance to improve asset reliability and business performance.
- Manage maintenance backlogs effectively, reducing asset downtime and operational risk through visible leadership and hands‑on technical support.
- Drive productivity by working closely with Network Asset Engineers, work management and planning teams to improve scheduling, reduce rework and resolve complex job issues.
- Collaborate with planners to develop and deliver effective annual maintenance plans.
- Use data and insights to communicate asset performance, risks and lessons learned, supporting continuous improvement and informed decision‑making.
- Support root cause failure analysis and maintenance optimisation to improve long‑term asset health and reduce repeat failures.
- Promote standardised maintenance practices, safety assurance and consistent ways of working across non‑infrastructure assets.
- Build strong, inclusive working relationships with operational teams, planners, contractors and technical specialists.
What we’re looking for:
- A recognised engineering qualification (City & Guilds, ONC, Level 3 Diploma or equivalent) with hands‑on operational experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of water and/or wastewater assets and maintenance operations.
- Proven experience planning, managing and delivering maintenance activities in a complex operational environment.
- The ability to lead and support complex job delivery with a focus on safety, quality, efficiency and customer outcomes.
- Strong analytical, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence communicating and influencing effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- A collaborative, resilient and continuous‑improvement mindset, committed to inclusive and safe ways of working.
