Job Purpose
Our successful Field Technical Officer will be responsible for all scientific and practical technical input to the Wastewater Production Manager, Process Controllers and Operators, to achieve regulatory, financial, customer and key business performance targets. You will also ensure all assets are managed to optimal efficiency within agreed budgetary targets whilst meeting all regulatory compliance and Customer Service standards. To include but not limited to UWWTD, PPC, UV, WML, WRA, Flow, HACCP, Self-Reporting.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- To analyse and interpret operational performance information, proactively identifying and implementing corrective actions within Health and Safety requirements; and escalating regulatory or performance risks to the Production Manager as appropriate.
- To create, develop, implement and report action plans to ensure all wastewater process activities comply with legislation and regulatory obligations whilst achieving internal Company performance targets.
- To work within a team of Hub Technical Officers, Process Controllers and Process Operators to deliver regulatory compliance and performance.
- To provide scientific, technical and practical direction required for the short and medium term operation of wastewater treatment assets.
- Assess and review workforce scheduling and other enhancement options in order to recommend corrective action
- Identify operational problems and existing asset needs relating to compliance, efficiency, asset availability, Health and Safety and optimisation. Assess and review enhancement options in order to recommend corrective action.
- To analyse and explain operational performance data and review performance reports with the Production Manager.
- To be proactively involved with site and district action planning to ensure compliance and optimise the operation and maintenance of treatment assets.
- Contribute to the provision of district information for regulatory returns and EA correspondence.
- To take a lead role in ensuring quality assurance documents are developed and maintained in alignment with business requirements
- To monitor the alarm management system in relation to wastewater asset performance ensuring best practice is implemented.
- To identify and deliver optimisation opportunities working collaboratively with the Area Engineering Manager to ensure the operation of wastewater treatment assets is fully optimised.
- Contribute to the development of suitable risk registers in alignment with the Wholesale Risk and Asset Planning to identify risks and issues, identify and monitor strategic performance requirements, and prioritise risks and issues for investment or operational management
Technical Skills & Experience
- A wide range of treatment technical skills to effectively monitor and control assets across a district.
- Well-developed IT, numerical, analytical and problem solving skills to deliver operational and financial performance targets.
- An excellent knowledge and practical experience of wastewater treatment processes and best operational practice.
- A technical knowledge of wastewater treatment assets and the associated operational, and maintenance requirements to ensure delivery of lowest whole life cost solutions.
- Ability to demonstrate practical experience working in wastewater treatment operations and maintenance and experience of delivering and maintaining performance improvement
