About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Developer Engineer to join our Wastewater Developer Services team. In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping how new developments connect safely and sustainably into our wastewater network.

You’ll provide expert technical assessment, advice and guidance on site drainage proposals across the full development lifecycle — from early pre‑planning enquiries through to coordinating the adoption of newly constructed assets. Your work will ensure that all new developments meet national standards and United Utilities requirements, protecting the performance and resilience of our existing network.

This is a role with real influence, offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work collaboratively with developers, customers and colleagues across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Review and technically assess site drainage proposals, working closely with developers to ensure designs are compliant, sustainable and do not adversely affect existing assets or serviceability.
  • Approve designs for proposed sewers submitted for adoption, including associated sewer diversions.
  • Assess and approve developer proposals for the diversion of existing public sewer assets where permitted.
  • Provide technical input and coordination support for Sewer Requisitions, ensuring proposals meet regulatory and company standards.
  • Liaise extensively with internal teams across United Utilities, customers, local authorities and other external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all projects are developed in line with legal requirements, health & safety standards, company policies and procedures.
  • Manage a varied and fast-paced workload, delivering timely, high-quality responses in line with industry-leading D‑MeX customer service standards.
  • Champion consistent, clear and customer-focused communication.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, procedures and ways of working within the department.
  • Support Wastewater Developer Services Managers in delivering business initiatives and achieving company objectives.
What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with a collaborative, customer-focused approach. You’ll bring:

  • Knowledge of wastewater services and a solid understanding of the wastewater network, its performance parameters and associated standards.
  • Understanding of legislation and regulatory obligations relating to the adoption of wastewater assets.
  • Awareness of company policies, procedures and technical specifications within a wastewater environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the confidence to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience of working with customers and/or external organisations.
  • Effective time-management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: HNC or degree in a technical discipline or substantial relevant industry experience.

Why Join Us?

Be part of a team that directly supports sustainable growth and infrastructure development. Gain exposure to a wide range of projects across the development lifecycle. Work collaboratively in a supportive, professional environment that values quality and customer service.
