Job Purpose
Health, Safety and Wellbeing is critical to everything we do at United Utilities and our Home Safe and Well activity is the core of our business. This role is positioned within our Safety Leadership Team, responsible for managing our high performing team of H&S Business Partners to support and challenge delivery of best in class H&S performance in UU operational activities.
Other responsibilities include:
- Working with the Head of Health and Safety Delivery, and Operational Directors to develop and deliver H&S plans that result in sustainable H&S improvements in line with the wider UU H&S strategy and their specific HS& risk profiles.
- To identify and escalate critical H&S issues to Operational Directors and H&S Leadership.
- Work with the Head of H&S Delivery and wider H&S Leadership team to develop UU H&S strategies and improvement programs based on operational needs.
- Develop the competence and capacity of the Operational H&S team, identify and develop talent.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Regular participation in Operational Leadership team meetings and field visits to support Operational Directors in the delivery of H&S policies, procedures, standards and improvement plans.
- Review and analyse Operational health, safety and wellbeing data to identify opportunities for improvements.
- Provide advice as required on UU health and safety requirements including coaching managers and colleagues of the business areas they support with leadership H&S commitments and behaviours.
- Ensure that H&S incident investigations are resourced and delivered effectively.
- Engagement with Operational leadership teams to ensure learning from significant H&S incidents are shared.
- Coach and mentor H&S team in effective support and challenge through effective performance reviews and implementation of targeted development plans.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven track record of delivering sustained health, safety and wellbeing improvement and a good understanding of H&S behavioural theory and practice.
- Excellent investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience of influencing, coaching and negotiation skills with senior leadership.
- Experience of communicating and presenting to senior management, both internally and externally.
- Experience of line management including coaching, mentoring and developing others.

Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in Health, Safety and/or wellbeing.
- Chartered Safety Professional (CMIOSH).
