Safety And Occupational Health Specialist

You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Occupational Safety and Health Program Division, Environmental, Safety and Health Department of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Duties

• You will assist in administering a comprehensive Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Program at Norfolk Ship Support Activity (NSSA).
• You will conduct Safety and Environmental Training for NSSA employees in accordance with the Navy Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program Manual.
• You will conduct workplace/industrial inspections of NSSA Norfolk facilities.
• You will maintain a log of Navy Occupational injuries and illnesses.
• You will communicate with Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Administration (DOL/OSHA) officials regarding safety and occupational health matters.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
• Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.

Qualifications

• GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Education

• In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
• Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
