Information Security Specialist

You will serve as an INFORMATION SECURITY SPECIALIST in the Security Division (Code C1110), Infrastructure Management Division (1100B), Corporate Operations Department (Code 1100) of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Duties:

• You will serve as Subject Matter Expert on the classification, declassification, and safeguarding of controlled unclassified information, sensitive and classified information within the Command and associated areas.
• You will be responsible for supporting and sustaining all matters pertaining to classification and safeguarding, transmission, and destruction of unclassified and classified information.
• You will prevent the improper handling of sensitive, unclassified data and provide targeted training and remediation for personnel who demonstrate deficiencies in proper marking procedures.
• You will supervise the command's classified material destruction program, ensuring all materials are destroyed using authorized equipment and methods and will maintain all required destruction logs and records.
• You will assist in formulating, coordinating, and conducting the command Security Education and Training Awareness (SETA).
• You will assist with Office of Inspector General (OIG) audits, inspections, and investigations, and will lead the preliminary inquiry into any potential security incidents or violations, such as spillage or unsecured classified material.

Requirements:

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
• You will be subject to random testing.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
• You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is part of the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Professional Educational Development (SPeD) certification program.
• The selectee is required to obtain Security Fundamentals professional Certification (SFPC) certification within two years of placement in the position and maintain the certification as long as they remain in the position.

Qualifications:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Experience applying DOD and USN security programs, concepts, standards, and practices; independently reviewing, analyzing, and resolving complicated security challenges.
• Experience understanding the Information Security, Controlled Unclassified Information Program, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, Sensitive Activity and Intelligence-Related Contracting (SAIRC) and Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI).
• Experience interpreting and implementing security policies, providing guidance to the Command, management, and other security specialists, to help in resolving conflicts in security requirements.
• Experience applying NAVSEA processes and procedures on access and movement control and safeguarding of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information.
• Experience understanding computer networking concepts and protocols and network security methodologies.
• Experience applying Intelligence reporting requirements and the process for reporting violations of Federal law, Executive Orders, DoD and DON directives, regulations and policies.
