DeepL is a global AI product and research company focused on building secure, intelligent solutions to complex business problems. Over 200,000 business customers and millions of individuals across 228 global markets today trust DeepL's Language AI platform for human-like translation, improved writing and real-time voice translation.

Founded in 2017, DeepL now has around 1,000 passionate employees and is supported by world-renowned investors. Our goal is to become the global leader in trusted, intelligent AI technology, building products that drive better communication, foster connections, and create a meaningful impact.

What sets us apart is our blend of cutting-edge AI technology, meaningful work, and a culture where people truly thrive. We’re a team of innovators, researchers, and creators driven by a shared purpose to unlock human potential by making work simpler, smarter, and more connected.

The Identity and Access Management team owns DeepL's full identity stack: organisation, group, account, consent and session management, SSO federation, SCIM provisioning, and the OIDC provider, for both internal and external users. It is the foundation every DeepL product relies on to authenticate and authorise users securely and at scale.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Raising the engineering bar across the team through design review, mentoring, and pragmatic technical standards.
  • Owning the delivery of identity services end to end, from design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation.
  • Stepping into urgent customer and operational incidents, helping the team diagnose and resolve them quickly.
  • Balancing feature delivery with the reliability and availability of critical infrastructure.
  • Setting technical direction and making principled architectural trade-offs on reliability, availability, consistency, and security.
  • Helping move the identity platform from startup grade to solid, scalable infrastructure over time.
  • Shaping the longer term identity roadmap, including the evolution of SSO, SCIM, and OIDC.
  • Leading analysis of complex or ambiguous needs and coordinating alignment across stakeholders.

Qualities we look for:

  • Production grade backend engineering at Staff level, with a track record of owning systems across team boundaries.
  • A strong record of driving initiatives from design through implementation, deployment, and operation.
  • Genuine willingness to get hands on and to jump into operational and incident work.
  • Experience building and operating reliable, high throughput services.
  • Solid software engineering and architecture principles.
  • Comfort operating in a fast moving, still maturing organisation.
  • Clear communication and the ability to influence technical direction without authority.
  • Depth in identity and access platforms such as SSO, OIDC, SCIM, and session management.

What we offer:

  • Diverse and internationally distributed team.
  • Open communication, regular feedback.
  • Hybrid work, flexible hours.
  • Virtual Shares - An ownership mindset in every role.
  • Regular in-person team events.
  • Monthly full-day hacking sessions.
  • 30 days of annual leave.
  • Competitive benefits.

We are an equal opportunity employer. You are welcome at DeepL for who you are - we appreciate authenticity here. Our product is for everyone, and so is our workplace.
