Corporate IT is recruiting a Server and Cloud Engineer to join the Server and Cloud team. The role forms part of the wider Corporate IT function, supporting services, platforms and projects across the company and other SYNLAB UK business units. While the role is based from the company office in Blackfriars, the successful candidate will work across a diverse technology estate supporting colleagues and services throughout the wider organisation. Occasional travel to other business locations may be required.
This is a technically varied role supporting modern server, cloud and associated infrastructure platforms. The successful candidate will help maintain secure, reliable and well-documented services whilst contributing to service improvements, project delivery and the transition of new technologies into business-as-usual support. We are looking for someone with strong technical experience, good operational discipline and a practical approach to service improvement.
The role would suit someone who is comfortable working with cloud platforms, Windows Server environments, Microsoft Azure, identity and access management, monitoring, automation, documentation, incident resolution and project delivery. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across Corporate IT, including Network, M365 and Modern Workplace teams, alongside Service Desk, End User Technology, Cyber Security teams and business stakeholders.
The role will also involve working with a range of Managed Service Providers and technology partners, helping to ensure suppliers deliver services in line with operational requirements, security standards and business expectations. As part of a geographically distributed team, the successful candidate will contribute to the standardisation, documentation and continual improvement of services across the organisation. They will be expected to share knowledge, support operational resilience and help deliver secure, scalable and supportable technology solutions that meet the needs of a growing and evolving business.

Corporate IT is currently undergoing a period of transformation and modernisation, with continued investment in cloud technologies, identity services, infrastructure platforms and security capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad technology estate, supporting both operational services and strategic initiatives that help standardise and improve technology services across the wider organisation.
As a Server and Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting, monitoring, managing, documenting and maintaining server, cloud and associated infrastructure platforms. You will work closely with colleagues across Corporate IT, including Network, M365 and Modern Workplace teams, alongside Service Desk, End User Technology, Cyber Security teams, business stakeholders and Managed Service Providers to ensure services are secure, resilient and aligned with business requirements.
You will contribute to the delivery of projects from design and implementation through to operational handover, helping ensure new technologies are effectively transitioned into business-as-usual support. You will also play an important role in maintaining accurate technical documentation, improving operational processes and building resilience across the wider team.
The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively, share knowledge and contribute to the continual improvement of services across Corporate IT, helping deliver secure, scalable and supportable technology solutions that meet the needs of a growing and evolving organisation.

Purpose of the Role
The Server and Cloud Engineer will join the Corporate IT Server and Cloud Team, supporting critical infrastructure, cloud platforms and associated services across the company and other SYNLAB UK business units. The team operates as part of a wider Corporate IT function, supporting technology services across multiple healthcare and laboratory organisations throughout the UK.
Working within a modern Microsoft-based technology environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining secure, reliable and well-documented services whilst supporting the ongoing development and improvement of the wider technology estate. The role combines operational support, project delivery, service improvement and technical governance, ensuring services remain resilient, secure and aligned with business needs.
What You Will Do
- Support, monitor, manage, document and maintain server, cloud and infrastructure platforms across multiple business units.
- Provide third-line technical support for incidents, service requests, problem management activities and complex technical investigations.
- Assist in the design, implementation and support of infrastructure and cloud-based solutions.
- Maintain and support Microsoft Azure, Windows Server and associated platform technologies.
- Support identity, authentication and access management services, ensuring security and least-privilege principles are maintained.
- Contribute to patching, vulnerability remediation, backup, recovery and business continuity activities.
- Monitor platform health, capacity and performance, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and risk reduction.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and support knowledge articles.
- Support the transition of projects and new technologies into business-as-usual operation.
- Work closely with Service Desk, End User Technology, Network, M365 and Cyber Security teams to ensure effective service delivery.
- Work with Managed Service Providers and technology partners to ensure services are delivered in accordance with agreed standards and business requirements.
- Participate in operational change, maintenance and service improvement activities.
- Contribute to standardisation initiatives and the continual improvement of Corporate IT services across the organisation.
- Support operational resilience through knowledge sharing, cross-team collaboration and documentation.
- Participate in out-of-hours support and maintenance activities where required.

- Ensure infrastructure services are operated and maintained in accordance with Corporate IT standards and security policies.
- Deliver high-quality technical support and troubleshooting for business-critical systems.

- Support project delivery activities from planning and design through implementation and operational handover.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation and asset information.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, platform resilience and service quality.
- Contribute to the development of standardised processes and technical solutions across Corporate IT.
- Ensure technical risks, incidents and service issues are appropriately managed and escalated.

The eight-storey building accommodates laboratory, operational and corporate functions across approximately 10,000 square metres of modern workspace. Corporate IT operates from the Hub, working closely with laboratory, operational and business teams to deliver secure, resilient and innovative technology services. Located in the heart of Blackfriars, the office is less than a five-minute walk from both Southwark Underground Station and Blackfriars Station, offering excellent transport links and access to a wide range of shops, restaurants and local amenities.
