We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer (IC5) to join our Risk Assessment Platform squad. Our mission is to build a platform that enables Wise product teams to stay safe and compliant by executing risk assessments quickly and easily, while allowing our Financial Crime and Compliance teams to build controls with minimal effort. Positioned between these two worlds, our team has the opportunity to drive company‑wide impact, ensuring customers can achieve their goals safely, conveniently, and without friction.

What will you be working on:
- Data Integrity: Solving complex problems related to data lineage, completeness, and validity.
- Bridging the Gap: Designing and defining the technical contracts between Product teams and Financial Crime teams.
- End‑to‑End Flows: Building robust, scalable e2e risk assessment workflows.
- System Optimization: Driving initiatives to continuously improve our speed, latency, and cost metrics.
Requirements:
- Deep Backend Expertise: Solid, production‑proven experience with Java and modern (micro)service architectures.
- System Design & Protocols: A rock‑solid understanding of synchronous and asynchronous communication protocols.
- Advanced Architecture Skills: Experience owning and designing fundamental components, shared libraries, and core infrastructure.
- Technical Leadership: Ability to act as a visionary, mapping out a clear technical strategy for your ownership area and mentoring others.
- Strong Communication: Exceptional collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts and align a highly diverse set of stakeholders.

- Previous experience working closely with data streaming and processing frameworks.
