About the role

Our engineers are increasingly building alongside AI copilots and agentic tooling — unlocking faster delivery and bigger ambitions than were possible a year ago. One of the places we're channelling that ambition is our policy administration and billing platform: the operational backbone every customer policy flows through. We're investing heavily in this platform to support our most ambitious roadmap commitments to date — including high-impact programmes with major partners. To deliver on this, we're bringing in a senior, product-focused engineer alongside the permanent team. The work blends shipping ambitious features end-to-end with the day-to-day craft of keeping a live platform healthy.

What you'll get up to:

  • Ship end-to-end features. Own meaningful slices of the platform, partnering with product to define what gets built and bring an engineering perspective to it.
  • Own what you ship in production. Investigate production issues, push fixes, and handle the maintenance and support work that comes with a live system. You'll do this alongside the existing team, who know the codebase and are there to support you.
  • Build with quality in mind. Treat quality as something that lives across the lifecycle — from BDD/DDD-led design through to tests that ship with your code. Drive architectural decisions in collaboration with the squad.
  • Leverage AI tools for faster delivery. We expect you to use AI copilots and agentic tooling to accelerate your output and raise the bar across the squad. Share what's working, bring new workflows in, and know when these tools produce signal versus noise.

About you:

  • Backend-first PHP/Laravel craft. Deep, current expertise in PHP and Laravel, with enough fluency in Livewire and Vue.js to own full-stack work end-to-end.
  • Demonstrable command of BDD, DDD, and OOP applied to complex business domains.
  • A live-system ownership mindset. You see investigation, debugging, and reliability as the craft that keeps live features healthy. You've shipped production code on business-critical systems and know how to keep them that way.
  • Quick to orient. You've landed in unfamiliar codebases before and added value within weeks, not months — because you set your own pace, raise blockers early, and don't wait to be told what to do.
  • Pragmatic technical judgement. You can articulate the business impact of technical decisions, push back on testing or process that adds ceremony without signal, and balance feature delivery with reliability investment.
  • A strong communicator. You can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, contribute meaningfully to refinement and architecture discussions, and write documentation that someone else can pick up cold.
  • A curious, experimental attitude to AI in engineering workflows. You see agentic tools as something to shape and evaluate, not something to either fear or uncritically adopt.
  • Regulated industry experience. Ideally you've shipped in fintech, insurtech, or other regulated environments, and you're unbothered by FCA / PCI / GDPR constraints.

In return, we offer you:

  • A competitive salary and the ability to grow your career
  • 25 days holiday - so there's plenty of time for work, rest and play
  • Hybrid way of working for the perfect work / life balance
  • Vitality private health and dental insurance
  • Added benefits including competitive pension and salary sacrifice
  • Access to financial wellbeing platform Mintago
  • Full access to Spill, our mental health platform
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Fun and modern office environment with regular team social events
  • City of London location
