A Senior Creative Technology Engineer bridges the gap between software engineering and creative design by rapidly prototyping and scaling interactive digital experiences. This role requires a hybrid professional who is equally comfortable writing production‑ready code, exploring emerging technology like Generative AI, and collaborating directly with Creative Directors and clients.
As a Senior Creative Technology Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of code, design, and physical/digital interaction. You will serve as the studio's technical leader, taking ambiguous creative concepts and transforming them into tangible, high‑fidelity prototypes and scalable systems. You will champion the adoption of next‑generation tools—specifically Generative AI, real‑time 3D, and interactive frameworks—while mentoring junior developers and establishing technical best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Rapid Prototyping & R&D: Design, build, and iterate on highly polished proofs‑of‑concept (front‑end and back‑end) within short, agile cycles to validate creative ideas.
- System Architecture & Scaling: Transition successful prototypes into robust, production‑ready applications, automation pipelines, or experiential installations.
- AI & Emerging Tech Integration: Build and deploy workflows utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, custom ComfyUI nodes, vector databases, and real‑time 3D environments.
- Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration: Act as the primary technical translator between Creative Directors, UX/UI designers, brand strategists, and clients.
- Technical Leadership & Pitching: Attend client workshops and pitches to demonstrate prototypes, evaluate technical feasibility, and mitigate engineering risks early.
- Mentorship: Line‑manage and mentor mid‑level and junior developers, running code reviews and fostering an environment of technical curiosity.
- Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally within a creative agency, production house, or design‑led tech company.
- Core Development: Mastery of JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern front‑end frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js) alongside robust back‑end capabilities (Node.js, Python).
- Creative Coding & 3D: Hands‑on experience with real‑time graphics and interaction libraries such as WebGL, Three.js, Unity, Unreal Engine, or TouchDesigner.
- Generative AI Tooling: Practical experience constructing agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and integrating AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) into production.
- Cloud & DevOps: Proficiency in standing up lightweight cloud architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure), managing APIs, and utilizing databases.
- Design Literacy: Fluency in translating assets from design tools like Figma or Adobe Creative Suite into active code systems.
- Strong portfolio showcasing live interactive websites, experimental tech, or physical‑digital installations.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical pipelines to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting technical requirements.
At the company, you'll help shape the future of content production at a truly global scale. We bring together world‑class talent, cutting‑edge studios, and advanced technology to solve some of the most complex creative and production challenges in the industry. You'll work in a collaborative, borderless environment where craft excellence is valued, innovation is encouraged, and AI and next‑generation tools are used to amplify not replace human creativity. With access to diverse projects, global career opportunities, and the backing of WPP's unmatched network, this is a place where you can grow your skills, make real impact, and create work that performs for every audience, across every channel, at every moment.
WPP is an equal opportunity employer and considers applicants for all positions without discrimination or regard to particular characteristics. We are committed to fostering a culture of respect in which everyone feels they belong and has the same opportunities to progress in their careers.
