The role
We’re looking for a Security Automation Engineer to join our Security Automation Engineering (SAE) team in London.
The team designs and implements automated detection and response capabilities that protect G-Research’s diverse and complex estate, spanning high-performance compute (HPC) environments, Azure and Windows corporate infrastructure, and public cloud platforms such as AWS.
As part of SAE, you’ll play a hands‑on role building secure, scalable, and reliable automation systems that enable Security to respond faster, reduce manual effort, and improve our overall cyber resilience.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and security specialists to deliver production-quality systems, contributing to the design, development, and continuous improvement of SAE’s platform and tooling ecosystem.
SAE is a high-performing team of security professionals turned engineers.
As part of this team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute directly to G-Research’s defensive capabilities — developing tools and automation that help detect, respond to, and contain cyber threats at scale.
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and cyber security, helping to solve meaningful security challenges at scale in one of the world’s most advanced computing environments.
Key responsibilities of the role include
- Design, build and maintain automated detection and response systems across G-Research’s hybrid environments (HPC, Azure, AWS).
- Develop high-quality, well-tested code primarily in Python, following secure engineering best practices.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines (e. g. Jenkins, Argo CD).
- Collaborate with CSIRT and other security teams to integrate data and automation from tools such as Azure Defender XDR, AWS Security Hub, and Elastic Security.
- Participate in code reviews, contributing to a culture of quality, maintainability and security.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and design reviews, providing feedback and practical input on implementation approaches.
- Monitor system performance and reliability, identifying opportunities for operational improvement.
- Work with stakeholders to understand automation requirements and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
- Continuously improve development processes, documentation and engineering standards within the team.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for experience in the following areas
- Strong Python development skills with an understanding of secure software engineering and automation in complex environments.
- Practical experience building and maintaining production systems in at least one major public cloud provider (AWS or Azure).
- Familiarity with Dev Ops and infrastructure automation tooling (e. g. Jenkins, Argo CD, Terraform, Ansible).
- Exposure to security operations tooling such as SIEM/XDR/SOAR platforms (e. g. Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic Security, AWS Security Hub).
- Experience working in agile delivery teams and collaborating with diverse technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for building clean, maintainable, and scalable systems.
- A growth mindset and desire to continuously improve systems, processes, and personal skills
Why join us?
- Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
- Lunch provided via Just Eat for Business and dedicated barista bar
- 35 days’ annual leave
