We are looking for an experienced Automation Solutions Engineer to join our AMZL Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) Team, focusing on the design, programming, testing, and implementation of software solutions and processes that enhance the productivity and quality of our Amazon Delivery stations. The role requires the person to be a technical lead for programs and projects. This is an opportunity to become part of our team and make a real impact across our last mile sites across the EU, managing large-scale projects and initiatives, providing technical support to local teams, internal stakeholders, vendors and creating innovative solutions to adopt world class automated technologies and systems. 40 - 50% travel is expected in this role. Flexible locations across any AMZL Delivery stations and Corp offices in UK, Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
Key job responsibilities:
- Understand and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/IPC, industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, ASi), motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
- Programming and source coding for in-house built solutions based on PLC or IPC and SCADA/OEE platforms.
- Lead international innovative solutions related to automation systems.
- Project Management (PM) of large-scale initiatives that will require the coordination of work activities of Automation Engineers (AE) to accomplish the goals of the business.
- Apply Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on troubleshooting and dive deep for engineering issues, supporting local teams to investigate the root cause and plan actions to eliminate/mitigate the downtime of critical assets.
- Create, optimise and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to control the efficiency, availability and quality of the machines, generating reports for improvement.
- Manage and deal with vendors to plan and coordinate ticket resolution for local teams or network-wide issues.
- Provide technical guidance and decision-making for collaborative projects or initiatives with other Amazon teams, being a key stakeholder in supporting technical and major network support requests.
Basic qualifications:
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Automation, Industrial, Electrical, Electronics) from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
- Multi-skilled in both automation and electrical disciplines.
- Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment including packaging machinery, sortation and conveyor systems.
- Experience with PLC-based control systems (e.g. Siemens, Codesys, or Allen-Bradley).
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
- Experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.
