Role/Team overview

We are seeking a Cloud/AI Platform Operations Engineer to join our Group AI Engineering team, keeping the production AI services that the company depends on reliable, secure and cost effective.

Where the build teams take solutions from prototype to launch, you own what happens next: the platform they run on, the pipelines that deploy them, the monitoring around them, and the response when something breaks.

You do not need a background in machine learning.

This is a platform and operations role at heart, and we are looking for someone who knows how to run things properly in the cloud and is curious about what changes when the workload is an AI agent.

Our estate runs primarily on AWS, so AWS experience is preferred.

We will also consider strong candidates from Azure or Google Cloud who can demonstrate transferable operational depth and the appetite to get up to speed on AWS quickly.

What you'll do

  • Maintain and improve cloud infrastructure for production AI services.
  • Build and support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Operate containerised applications using Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, or similar platforms.
  • Monitor system health, investigate incidents, and improve reliability, covering both infrastructure signals and signals specific to AI services such as output quality, prompt and model regressions, guardrail breaches, and tool call failures.
  • Act as a frontline point of contact for AI service issues, keeping stakeholders informed while incidents are triaged and resolved.
  • Support Python services through log analysis, troubleshooting, and basic code changes.
  • Manage access, secrets, dependencies, vulnerabilities, and security findings in line with the company's security standards and AI governance requirements.
  • Monitor infrastructure and AI service costs, attribute spend across teams and workloads, and identify efficiency improvements.
  • Work with AI engineers to support applications using large language models, agents, APIs, and external data sources.
  • Maintain operational documentation, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks.
  • As this is a production operations role, on call cover may be required in future to keep critical services running outside core hours.
  • What you’ll bring

Essential criteria

  • Experience in Dev Ops, cloud engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or production support.
  • Experience supporting production systems in a cloud environment. AWS is preferred, but equivalent depth in Azure or Google Cloud will be considered.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, source control, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with Docker and exposure to Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, networking, APIs, identity, secrets, and cloud security.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
  • Working knowledge of Python, with the ability to read existing code, troubleshoot applications, make straightforward changes, and write automation scripts.
  • Strong communication and incident management skills, comfortable being the calm point of contact during an incident and explaining technical issues to business audiences.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile delivery environment.

Desirable skills and experience

  • AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect, Sys Ops Administrator, or Dev Ops Engineer.
  • Experience supporting AI, machine learning, or large language model applications.
  • Familiarity with managed AI platforms and model APIs.
  • Experience with Postgres or other relational databases.
