The Software Engineering and Systems Integration team in the UK is actively working across Defence, Commercial Airplanes, Global Services and Uncrewed technologies. The Software Engineering team works on the development of Synthetic Environment Sub‑systems, Mission Systems Capability, Autonomous Behaviours, enhancement of Ground Control Systems, Technical Publications and various in‑house proprietary tools for the Defence platforms. The team also contributes to Commercial Modification of aircraft, development of Onboard Network Systems, Cabin Interiors and supporting Supplemental Type Certification efforts.
You’ll support Defence and Security domains at the company locations and Customer sites across the UK, including Autonomous Systems, Training and Simulation, Cyber, Space, Intelligence and Security. You will join a rapidly growing Engineering Capability with a culture for development, collaboration and success. Initially you will be assigned to our Simulation Programmes, which operate across the Air, Land and Maritime domains, with future opportunity to develop your interests across the breadth of the Software Engineering portfolio.
Position Responsibilities
- Supports the design, architecture, and development of simulation models, simulation visualizations, virtual environments/platforms and frameworks to enhance test performance, safety, and durability of software and hardware systems throughout the entire product lifecycle.
- Supports partnership with stakeholders to review and identify simulation requirements and dynamics of the systems being simulated.
- Supports designing, modeling, simulation, testing, and analysis to assess and optimize overall system performance and capabilities.
Basic Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- Ability to obtain security clearance.
- Proficiency in C++, Lua scripting or one of the similar programming languages.
- Familiarity with physics‑based modelling and simulation system engineering principles.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, BitBucket, etc.).
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with DevOps, Automation and CI/CD concepts.
- Understanding of testing frameworks and unit testing practices.
- Experience working as a Software Simulation Engineer or a similar role.
- Experience across Software Development Lifecycle and Software standards such as ISO 9001.
- Understanding of the distributed interoperability simulation protocols used within defence collective training (e.g., DIS and HLA).
- Understanding and experience of the COTS simulation and training environment development, execution, verification, validation and deployment.
- Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming (OOP) and software design principles.
Location
The primary location for our Engineering teams is Fleet, with the general expectation of minimum 3 days a week in the office. We will also consider applicants who may prefer to be based out of our Bristol offices, and potentially others dependent on the suitability of the candidate.
