Why is this role important for the company?
As an Automation Engineer, you will help turn customer workflows into reliable automated systems. You will work at the intersection of robotics, software, hardware, and laboratory instrumentation, supporting the configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of automated workflows on the company’s LINQ platform.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Building, configuring and testing automated lab workflows using the company’s LINQ platform.
- Integrating laboratory instruments such as liquid handlers, incubators, plate readers, centrifuges, and robotic devices.
- Writing and executing test scripts to check that workflows are reliable, repeatable, and ready for customer use.
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, and process issues during system commissioning.
- Supporting customer training and helping users understand how to operate automated workflows safely and effectively.
- Translating customer needs into clear technical requirements for product, engineering, and delivery teams.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including test records, workflow descriptions, risk assessments, safety documentation, and system notes.
- Supporting project delivery from design and scoping through to installation, testing, and handover.
What it takes:
- A degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent practical experience in automation engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a similar technical field.
- A strong interest in robotics, automation, hardware/software integration, or laboratory technology.
- Experience with Python, scripting, test automation, or technical troubleshooting.
- A practical, hands-on approach to solving problems.
- The ability to communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical people.
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn quickly.
- Availability to be based in or travel regularly to Frankfurt am Main.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites in Germany and occasionally across Europe as needed.
- English language skills.
Nice to haves:
- Experience with lab automation, liquid handlers, plate readers, incubators, or similar benchtop equipment.
- Familiarity with CAD, wiring diagrams, system layouts, or technical drawings.
- Experience using tools such as Jira, Asana, GitHub, or similar project/task tracking systems.
- Knowledge of life science workflows, laboratory environments, or regulated/validated systems.
- Experience with robotics, PLCs, sensors, actuators, motion systems, or industrial automation.
