Our Utilities Infrastructure Business are looking to recruit a Head of Environment and Sustainability that will help to develop, implement, and manage the organisation's sustainability strategy and initiatives, including environmental policies, resource management, and compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the organisation's values and strategic objectives.
- Policy Implementation: Create and implement environmental policies and practices to embed sustainable and environmentally friendly working practices.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, conduct audits, and prepare detailed reports on sustainability performance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to promote sustainability initiatives and build strong relationships.
- Data & Metrics: Monitor, analyse carbon data and report on key sustainability metrics, such as energy consumption, waste generation, and carbon footprints.
- Carbon Reporting: Lead the implementation of the carbon accounting system to enable Scope 1, 2 and 3 data to be provided to the business to support data-driven decisions, including science-based targets.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate environmental risks and assess the impact of business activities on the environment.
- Awareness & Training: Lead environmental awareness programs for employees to foster a culture of sustainability.
- Innovation: Research and implement new technologies, practices, and strategies to enhance the organization's sustainability performance.
Qualifications
- Chartered or working towards membership of IEMA, CIWEM or equivalent
- 10+ years’ experience in environment / sustainability roles within infrastructure or construction
- Strong expertise in EIA, carbon reduction, climate resilience, biodiversity net gain
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders
- In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation and standards
- Experience implementing and managing ISO 14001
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to embed sustainability into project delivery
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification (MSc or equivalent)
- Experience working on major infrastructure programmes or frameworks
- ESG reporting and sustainability strategy development experience
