Job roles and responsibility

To manage H&S, Environment & Quality on all the sites, ensuring all construction work under your control is carried out correctly. You will have to ensure all the correct permits for the activity being undertaken are issued. You will be responsible for any direct labour & subcontractors, materials/plant on site. You must ensure compliance with industrial engineering codes of practice, company procedures and relevant safety standards. You will also be responsible for programme deadlines and ensuring everything is done cost-effectively and to the client’s satisfaction.

Health, Safety & Environment

Be familiar with and demonstrate a commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies. Implement the relevant requirements of the SMS and EMS within your area of responsibility. Ensure that staff receive or have access to copies of the Environmental Policy and are kept informed of environmental developments and issues. Ensure that the Health & Safety Environmental Policy is effectively communicated to the workforce, particularly to those engaged in activities that have been identified as likely to have a significant environmental impact.

Principal Duties & Accountabilities

• Lead by example regarding SHEQ (PPE) to motivate your teams.
• Compliance with Specific Risk Assessment and Method Statements for construction activities.
• Ensure teams do not operate any Plant Equipment unless trained, appropriately certified and authorised.
• Liaise with customers at site level and ensure all details are given to the Customer Liaison Manager for follow up.
• Report any Hazards / Near Misses / Accidents / Incidents / Utility Damages directly to the SHEQ Manager and via the company reporting systems.
• Ensure all Direct and Sub-contractors teams follow Codes of Practice & adhere to NRSWA requirements.
• Manage mains replacement operations such as pipe insertion, pipe bursting, directional drilling and customer connections.
• Work closely with the SHEQ Manager to deliver the best H & S performance.
• Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is achieved on all sites.
• Ensure all personnel have had a full induction whether directly employed or sub-contract.
• Accurately record all work carried out on site through the weekly joint measure sheets.
• Develop and maintain a relationship with relevant client representatives.
• Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported promptly with the required reports being filed out.
• Ensure plant checks are undertaken on site, and defected plant must be reported.
• Ensure all personnel are fully aware of company policies, i.e. Drugs and Alcohol, Waste Management.
• Ensure all direct labour & subcontractors receive the relevant paperwork, i.e. permits to dig, risk assessments, method statements, etc.
• Make sure all sites comply with audits.
• Attend all relevant team briefs your manager wants you to attend.
• Coordinate Section 74 Reinstatement Details.
• Carry out a minimum of 4 safety audits and 4 close calls / good calls per month.
• Complete ITP checks in line with UIWS ITP Procedures and hold points.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients on a regular basis, attending internal and external meetings as required.
• Carry out any other duties deemed necessary by your line manager.

Job Facts & Figures

Southern Water Clean Water Mains Replacement Framework: We have a 5-year Framework with an option to extend for a further 5 years. The scheme areas cover Hampshire and East & West Sussex, so a company van will be offered along with a fuel card to suitable candidates. You will be managing up to 4 teams within a geographical area, which could be direct Sub-contract.

• Ensure all work is undertaken safely and that actions taken do not endanger you or others.
• Ensure team members carry out the works in a safe and effective manner.
• Cooperate with management and ensure all construction works are carried out to a high quality and conform to Industry Standards, Codes of Practice.
• Enforce and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures & ensure that all documentation is kept up to date on site.

Key Working Relationships

Liaison with:

• Internal - Framework Delivery Manager, Senior Operations Manager, SHEQ Manager, Customer Liaison Manager, Q.S and manage working teams.
• External - Client Reps, sub-contractors, suppliers.

Person Specification

Experience and Qualifications:

• Previous Team Lead/Supervisory experience working within Utilities sector, with preference to clean water.
• NRSWA Supervisor.
• CAT & GENNY Trained and competent.
• Awareness of Streetworks Noticing / CoP and SLG site set Ups.
• EUSR Water hygiene.
• SSSTS / SMSTS.
• Awareness of Pipe Joint Method – Electrofusion / Buttfusion etc.
• Good IT skills and awareness.
• Awareness and Preferred Temporary works trained.
• Clean Driving Licence.
