Site Engineer Civils (Enabling Works) - Argyll for United Living Group. United Infrastructure Transmission & Distribution are recruiting for Site Engineer’s (Access and Enabling Works) with a Civils bias to join an Overhead Lines Project (OHL) in Argyll, Scotland. You will be focusing on supporting the team in enabling works phase of the overhead lines sites prior to tower assembly and erection.
Role and Responsibilities
- Reporting to the OHL Construction Manager, you will be part of the Enabling Works and Access Roads team, coordinating foremen and subcontractors while liaising with clients and third parties.
- Manage the setting People to Work process, including onboarding and site inductions.
- Oversee daily health & safety protocols for staff and subcontractors, reporting incidents, managing project resources, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Support the Construction and Project Managers with documentation and reporting.
- Coordinate effectively with all stakeholders and contribute to delivering the enabling works phase prior to tower assembly and erection.
This role is site based on a long-term project in Inverness supporting our client SSE.
Typical Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day Health & Safety for staff and subcontractors.
- Report Safety incidents and “near misses” internally and externally.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage Foremen and subcontractors; assist the Construction Manager in checking staff competencies and training.
- Control costs and monitor financial status of your project area where applicable.
- Produce method statements, work instructions, and risk assessments.
- Provide the Construction and Project Managers with information for monthly reports and project change control.
- Plan and coordinate resources (plant, materials, labour).
- Determine material requirements and liaise with Procurement.
- Liaise with clients, third parties, and stakeholders.
- Collect and collate QA documentation for final records.
- Support the Site Construction Manager in developing target costs.
- Ensure compliance with OHSAS 18001:1999, ISO 9001:2000, and ISO 14001:2004 standards.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable industry experience in a similar role.
- Possess a recognised Safety Qualification (such as IOSH or NEBOSH).
- Previous experience in the management of sub-contractors and the recording of measurement details to enable financial settlement.
- Supervisory experience of technical aspects of construction, access and accommodation works, traffic management, scaffolds, metal access roads, yard setup, welfare facilities, foundations, conductor and fitting replacement works (desirable).
- Willingness to work away from home regularly and for prolonged periods of time.
- Demonstrated experience with enabling, access roads and foundation construction in power transmission projects.
- Proven coordination with third parties (local councils, highway authorities, environment agencies, etc.).
