Job Purpose – The Lead Gas Engineer is responsible for overseeing the delivery of gas servicing, maintenance, and installation works within social housing properties. The role ensures all gas-related works are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry regulations, company policies, and relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of gas engineers carrying out servicing, breakdowns, repairs, and installations within occupied and void social housing properties.
  • Ensure all gas works comply with Gas Safe regulations, Health & Safety legislation, and company procedures.
  • Plan and allocate daily workloads to engineers to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and contract requirements.
  • Monitor engineer productivity, performance, and quality of work through regular audits and site inspections.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers when diagnosing complex faults.
  • Ensure all servicing and maintenance records, including LGSR (Landlord Gas Safety Records), are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues, complaints, and escalations from tenants, clients, or housing officers.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training to maintain high standards of compliance and safety.
  • Ensure engineers maintain high levels of customer service when working in tenants' homes.
  • Liaise with housing associations, contractors, and internal teams to coordinate works and ensure contract KPIs are achieved.
  • Monitor stock usage, van audits, and materials to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of engineers.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience working as a Gas Engineer within social housing or domestic properties.
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a gas maintenance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of domestic gas servicing, repairs, and installations.
  • Excellent understanding of Gas Safe regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing workloads and supporting engineers in a field-based environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good communication skills when dealing with tenants, clients, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced maintenance environment.

Qualifications

  • Valid Gas Safe Registration
  • ACS Qualifications (such as CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1, CPA1)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Relevant health & safety training (desirable)
