Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail‐driven Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. This role is ideal for someone looking to progress their career within the construction industry, with opportunities to gain hands‐on experience, develop commercial skills, and work towards professional accreditation such as AssocRICS or MRICS.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Commercial and finance team in the effective commercial management of projects.
- Assist with the preparation, submission, and agreement of interim valuations and final accounts.
- Support the procurement process, including issuing enquiries, analysing quotations, and preparing subcontract orders.
- Measure, price, and value variations in line with contractual requirements.
- Maintain accurate cost records and assist in preparing cost reports and forecasts.
- Help monitor project budgets, cost control measures, and financial performance.
- Attend site meetings to gather information needed for valuations, variations, and reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of tender documents and bills of quantities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant industry standards.
- Engage with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to support smooth project delivery.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Working towards a degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- NEC3 / 4 experience desirable.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and develop commercially and professionally.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a construction or civil engineering environment.
- Familiarity with standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT, etc.).
- Experience with measurement software or estimating tools.
- Interest in pursuing RICS chartership.
