Social Infrastructure - Our team of Social Infrastructure specialists revitalise homes and communities by carrying out a wide range of work, from retrofit to refurbishment, and maintenance.

This role is perfect for a highly experienced Commercial Manager from a civils or construction background. With consolidated experience of delivering large EPC, you will be independent and proactive in your approach with strong leadership and negotiation skills. The successful candidate will be experienced commercially in managing large projects and will be assigned to a contract currently in the early design stages for the construction of new-build overhead line over the next 4+ years.

Establishing and overseeing a team of commercial reports undertaking the day-to-day activity of commercial administration is also key to the role. You will be responsible for managing revenue and entitlement, managing subcontractor performance and long-lead procurement orders whilst driving delivery strategy. You will enjoy the challenges of delivering project target EBIT, addressing unexpected events, and managing within budgets. Developing commercial strategy and working alongside client for the delivery of scopes is also key.

You will be managing the commercial delivery of one of UI Power Transmission and Distribution’s largest EPC contracts ensuring performance and returns for UI. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support our growing workload and contribute to the increased network capacity required to deliver the UK government's pathway to 2030 and the transition to net zero. This is your chance to be involved with a growing project with future team growth reporting to the role and be part of a large complex project on an NEC contract.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Provide Directors and delivery teams with proactive commercial support and lead delivery of commercial strategies
  • Ensure effective post contract commercial management of the relevant framework, contract, or project in accordance with UI’s commercial policies and procedures
  • Regular reporting and analysis on project performance
  • Develop relationships with key client and supplier personnel and lead UI’s commercial interaction
  • Bring focus to key execution risks and ensure robust mitigation plans are developed and implemented
  • Ensure commercial entitlement is pursued and obtained in accordance with the terms of the contracts
  • Manage commercial resources deployed on projects and ensure appropriate training and development is provided
  • Ensure that any necessary contractual notices are served in accordance with the terms of each contract
  • Develop and implement effective negotiating strategies with respect to contractual matters and issues

Expected:

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, or Business Studies, along with appropriate professional qualification (preferred), although other relevant experience will be considered
  • Substantial experience in a similar role with consolidated leadership/management experience ideally gained within Transmission and Distribution or civils sector although not essential
  • Proven experience in contract administration including change management
  • Awareness of all relevant corporate and project procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and presentation
  • The ability to communicate complex principles effectively at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork, respect, integrity, innovation, and a client-driven approach
  • Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplines at all levels of the business with a practical, hands-on approach
  • Flexible to undertake varying work with changing priorities
