Due to significant growth at United Infrastructure Transmission & Distribution, we are looking for an EHV Cable Engineering Manager to join our team. As an Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and bolstering our technical credibility with new and existing clients. Your responsibilities will include leading engineering delivery across multiple projects and ensuring timely preparation of quality deliverables within the allocated program and budget.

Fender Hybrid Working

We support hybrid working, offering a blend of office and remote work. The role involves travel as needed and can be based at any of our UK offices, with a preference for Glasgow or Horsham.

The Role

Reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be an established Engineering Manager with substantial experience delivering HV cable design solutions and demonstrated leadership and coordination of a mixed team including electrical, civil, and CAD resources. You will coordinate all aspects of HV cable design and communicate closely with internal construction teams and our external client teams, shaping the next phase of the team's development and significantly impacting the future growth of the business. This opportunity will allow you to enhance your project management skillset and coordination capabilities across both cable and civil team delivery outcomes. In terms of career progression, you can advance to the Senior Engineering Manager role and eventually reach the Head of Engineering level, or transition to the Head of Design discipline if you prefer a more technical pathway.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering process and all deliverables across the full scope of cable projects in accordance with the agreed schedule
  • Ensure engineering management, including delivery updates, change control, and risk management
  • Complete checking and approval of deliverables in your areas of technical competence and, if required, design activities to meet the schedule
  • Ensure constructability and safety by design requirements are met in our deliverables
  • Provide guidance to the team as needed to help develop others

Expected

  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent preferred
  • Substantial experience delivering HV cable design solutions and leading a mixed team including electrical, civil and CAD resources
  • Strong teamwork and organisational abilities with honed communication skills
  • Understanding of key health and safety impacts on HV cable construction contracts
  • Fluent spoken and written English language
  • Ability to work as part of a dispersed and remote team and communicate through collaboration software such as Microsoft Teams
  • Must have a right to work in the UK currently

Desirable

  • Proven experience working to British and European design standards and codes
  • Experience providing engineering inputs to cable construction activities, including the planning and delivery of the construction
  • Understanding of engineering management, including schedule and cost management
  • Experience supporting tendering activities
  • Experience presenting technical outputs and supporting client engagements
