Purpose of the Role
You will join the Specialist Surface Treatments division as a member of a Process Team delivering microsurfacing solutions to multiple clients across the UK. The role is focused on safely and effectively carrying out road repairs and surface improvements using the microasphalt/microsurfacing process, ensuring all work meets required quality and safety standards. The post requires travel to various sites across the UK and working every other weekend during the main season. Colas will arrange/provide mobile accommodation and pay subsistence.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely carry out road repairs and surface improvements using the microasphalt/microsurfacing process in line with specified methods and quality standards.
- Apply and observe relevant safety legislation and company procedures, including the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Road Traffic Act.
- Follow procedures for Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and for Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).
- Drive vehicles in compliance with the Road Traffic Act and company rules.
- Operate plant and machinery as required and directed by the foreman/supervisor.
- Install, maintain and remove traffic management systems as required.
- Prepare roads for surface treatment, including protection of ironwork and other pre-treatment tasks.
- Be available to work away from home on a one-week-on, one-week-off basis (every other weekend). No bank holiday working.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Supervisor to support the team.
- Work the standard paid day of 10 hours.
Ideal Candidate
Previous experience in machine resurfacing is an advantage, but training will be provided for candidates without experience. You should be able to operate plant and work safely on highways under traffic management, understand health, safety and environmental responsibilities, and be willing to work away on a rota and share mobile accommodation. Desirable: micro/recycling experience, highway maintenance background and CSCS/NRSWA certifications (training available if required).
