As a senior functional manager, the Finance Business Partner leads a team of finance professionals to provide a range of financial services to the business or a specific area of the business (the supported area). The Finance Business Partner is a trusted advisor to and an integral part of the operational management team in the supported area and shares a responsibility for target setting and delivery with that team. Through the development and delivery of insightful financial reporting and performance analysis the Finance Business Partner will influence key operational and commercial decisions and drive performance in the supported area and, in collaboration with the operational management team will develop the plans which meet the company objectives. As a technical expert the Finance Business Partner will ensure that the supported area is operating in line with all relevant accounting and financial policies and processes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Influencing strategic direction in the supported area.
  • Influencing strategy of the finance function.
  • Participating in major contract negotiations.
  • Providing timely, accurate and insightful financial analysis and management information to link financial performance with business activity.
  • Holding operational management in the supported area accountable for financial performance, ensuring all targets are met.
  • Understanding the cost / revenue drivers in the supported area and providing insight to non-financial management.
  • Challenging current ways of working, driving long term efficiencies / cost savings / revenue increases wherever possible.
  • Leading the financial planning activity in the supported area across multiple planning horizons (in year, project lifetime, rolling annual, 5 years and 10 years).
  • Analysing business opportunities and providing options and scenarios to support business decisions.
  • Preparing robust business cases, in collaboration with the operation management team, in advance of submission to internal investment or customer committees.
  • Leading and developing a team providing cost centre / profit centre / project accounting services to the supported area.
  • Supporting operational management to identify and mitigate / realise risk / opportunities.
  • Defining and delivering continuous improvement activities in the function and the supported area.
  • Ensuring the supported area complies with all financial policies and procedures.
  • Lead any audit activity relevant to the supported area.
  • Set costing rates relevant to the supported area / contract.

Essential Criteria:

  • Chartered Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) with demonstrable post qualified experience.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Line Management Experience.
  • Experience dealing with board level executives.
  • Commercial and Operational Accounting Experience.
