UK Nuclear New Labs (UKNNL) seeks an experienced Chemist with advanced skills in molecular dynamics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to contribute to cutting edge projects in clean energy, environmental restoration and nuclear safeguards.
The role involves model development, computer simulations, and delivery of scientific reports to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities with commercial functions and customers; prepare scopes of work under the direction of a technical lead.
- Develop partnerships with academia and industry to secure UKRI funding.
- Maintain expertise in relevant scientific areas to support UKNNL's mission in clean energy and environmental restoration.
- Deliver work on customer defined schedules and budgets, ensuring high technical quality.
- Report progress to team and project managers, flagging issues and opportunities.
- Develop, maintain and extend models, including bespoke coding in scientific programming languages.
- Conduct computer simulations as part of research and development activities.
- Prepare and present technical reports and findings to customers and external stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a 1st degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
- Ph D in a related field, including modelling the chemistry of materials using atomic scale simulation.
- Experience with machine learning and statistical methods.
- Experience writing technical reports and/or first author journal publications.
- Ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with molecular dynamics simulation and classical methods such as Grand Canonical or kinetic Monte Carlo.
- Programming or development experience with scientific languages (Matlab, Python, R, Fortran, etc.).
