Overview
In this role you will contribute to Youth Custody Services as a Senior Registered Psychologist, guiding trauma-informed care for in-custody youth. You join a multidisciplinary team with a focus on evidence-based practice and child-centered decision making. You will lead and supervise colleagues, shape interventions, safety, and staff wellbeing, and support service development across YCS England and Wales. This position offers CPD and career progression within the wider HMPPS Psychology Services. The role suits a resilient professional motivated by challenging, meaningful work in a custodial setting.

Responsibilities
- Provide senior clinical leadership within YCS Psychology Services
- Line manage and supervise trainee psychologists and other staff
- Lead and contribute to interventions, safety planning, and children’s support services
- Support staff wellbeing and professional development
- Collaborate across partner agencies for trauma-informed, evidence-based practice
- Contribute to wider HMPPS Psychology Services initiatives and CPD opportunities
- Engage in service development and policy influence within YCS and wider custodial estate
Key requirements
- Two years post-registration experience (point of taking up post) or 18 months with eventual registration
- Registration as Counselling Psychologist with HCPC or Counselling Psychotherapist with BABCP? (as applicable)
- Professional background in Psychology and clinical supervision experience
- Completed training in effective treatment models and best practices
- Chartered status with BPS likely required for some postings
