Overview

In this role you will help HMRC transition from legacy systems to cloud-based IT solutions, delivering high-quality digital products. You’ll work within a delivery team responsible for essential IT services that support Customs, Excise and International Trade decisions. You’ll tackle complex problems, lead a small technical team, and ensure timely, reliable deployments. This opportunity combines hands-on development, testing, and stakeholder collaboration to make a tangible public-service impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of technical colleagues and prioritise workload
  • Develop, share and maintain technical knowledge
  • Collaborate to deliver solutions within agreed timescales
  • Support live systems, manage development environments and resolve incidents
  • Provide impact analyses/estimates and conduct peer reviews
  • Build, test, document and implement solutions per Delivery Framework and quality standards
  • Develop and test coding changes per program specs and test strategies

Key requirements

  • Version control knowledge
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (predominantly RedHat Enterprise Linux)
  • Experience with DevOps tools (Gitlab, Artifactory, HC Vault)
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting, Perl or Python
  • Configuration/infrastructure management tools (Ansible, Terraform)
  • Container-based infrastructure
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Strong problem-solving mentality
  • Ability to lead and develop people
  • Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
