Overview
In this role you will help HMRC transition from legacy systems to cloud-based IT solutions, delivering high-quality digital products. You’ll work within a delivery team responsible for essential IT services that support Customs, Excise and International Trade decisions. You’ll tackle complex problems, lead a small technical team, and ensure timely, reliable deployments. This opportunity combines hands-on development, testing, and stakeholder collaboration to make a tangible public-service impact.

Responsibilities
- Lead a small team of technical colleagues and prioritise workload
- Develop, share and maintain technical knowledge
- Collaborate to deliver solutions within agreed timescales
- Support live systems, manage development environments and resolve incidents
- Provide impact analyses/estimates and conduct peer reviews
- Build, test, document and implement solutions per Delivery Framework and quality standards
- Develop and test coding changes per program specs and test strategies
Key requirements
- Version control knowledge
- Experience with Linux operating systems (predominantly RedHat Enterprise Linux)
- Experience with DevOps tools (Gitlab, Artifactory, HC Vault)
- Proficiency in Unix/Linux shell scripting, Perl or Python
- Configuration/infrastructure management tools (Ansible, Terraform)
- Container-based infrastructure
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Strong problem-solving mentality
- Ability to lead and develop people
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
