Overview
In this Senior Probation Officer role, you lead a Local Delivery Unit to ensure safe, pro-social outcomes for offenders. You will manage staff performance, deploy resources effectively, and drive delivery against national standards and contracts. You will work with partners to safeguard the public and continuously improve service delivery while upholding equality and safeguarding policies. Responsibilities
- Provide effective management and leadership to the team
- Ensure quality delivery of good practice and performance improvement
- Deploy resources to deliver best value within budgets and strategic aims
- Meet requirements of NPS contract with HMPPS, CRCs and local plans
- Analyze performance data to optimise team outcomes
- Manage staff development, attendance, health and safety, and employee relations
- Ensure offender managers assess and manage risk to meet public protection standards
- Contribute to public protection via multi-agency arrangements and case reviews
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous service improvement
- Manage financial resources in line with regulations
- Represent the NPS with partners and stakeholders
- Facilitate communication between management and internal/external partners
- Participate in corporate management as part of the LDU/Operational Unit team
- Perform safeguarding duties and align with NPS and HMPPS aims
Key requirements
- Graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Community Justice with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice (or historical equivalent)
- Experience leading teams and managing performance
- Knowledge of probation practice, public protection standards and risk management
- Ability to interpret performance data and apply it to improve service delivery
- Understanding of equality, inclusion, and safeguarding policies
- Ability to work flexibly, including out-of-hours if required
