In this role you lead a Local Delivery Unit within the National Probation Service to ensure high-quality practice and delivery. Responsibilities
- Provide effective management and leadership to the team
- Ensure quality delivery of good practice and performance improvement
- Deploy resources cost-effectively to meet budget and strategic aims
- Align team activities with contracts with HMPPS, CRCs, and local plans
- Analyse performance data to maximise team performance and practice quality
- Develop and manage staff, address underperformance, health and safety, and diversity matters
- Ensure offender managers manage risk and meet public protection standards
- Contribute to public protection via multi-agency arrangements and case reviews
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery
- Manage area budgets and authorise expenditure within limits
- Represent NPS in partnerships and external engagement
- Facilitate communication between management teams and partners
- Participate in corporate management as part of the unit team
- Undertake delegated responsibilities and adapt to changes in role
- Demonstrate pro-social modelling and challenge anti-social attitudes
- Carry out safeguarding duties in line with policies
- Work within NPS and HMPPS aims and values
Key requirements
- Substantial experience in probation or criminal justice context with good practice in offender risk assessment and management
- Understanding of Probation Service role in criminal justice and multi-disciplinary settings
- Knowledge of factors influencing engagement with victims
- Experience of risk management, multi-agency risk assessment and procedures
- Ability to evaluate practice and contribute to policy development
- Experience under pressure and meeting demanding deadlines
- Ability to work flexibly within a team to meet performance targets
- Experience in administration and information systems
- Proven change management and quality/efficiency improvements
- Strong IT skills with ability to interpret performance reports

- Probation Qualification Framework Graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Community Justice integrated with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice
- Or previously recognised qualifications: Diploma in Probation Studies, Diploma in Social Work (Probation Option), CQSW (Probation Option)
