The Chief Digital Information Office delivers complex, high‑value products and platforms that support HMRC’s strategic goals and improve outcomes for millions of users. We work in multidisciplinary teams using modern Agile delivery practices to deliver services at scale and improve outcomes for users. As a Senior Agile Delivery Manager, you will be accountable for the effective delivery of complex, high‑risk digital services across multiple teams or initiatives. You will shape delivery approaches, manage systemic risks and dependencies, and act as a primary escalation point for delivery challenges. You will play a critical role in improving delivery confidence, capability and outcomes.
You will optimise delivery flow across complex delivery environments, ensuring teams can deliver value effectively, sustainably and at pace. Using expert Agile and Lean delivery practices, you will tailor approaches to context, coach Delivery Managers and teams, and work with senior stakeholders to resolve delivery challenges and manage trade‑offs. Operating across programmes or portfolios, you will influence delivery strategy, stakeholder alignment and capability development. You will act as the main escalation point for delivery risks, issues and dependencies that sit beyond the control of individual teams, reporting to a Head of Delivery or equivalent senior leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Agile delivery across multiple complex product and platform teams.
- Act as the primary escalation point for delivery risks, issues and dependencies.
- Optimise delivery flow by identifying and removing systemic blockers.
- Coach and mentor Delivery Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Shape and tailor Agile delivery approaches to suit context and complexity.
- Influence senior stakeholders to improve delivery confidence and outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery practices, performance and capability.
- Support governance of platform technical health, reliability and sustainability.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience leading Agile delivery across multiple teams in complex, high-risk digital environments.
- Experience managing cross-team dependencies, risks and competing priorities.
- Evidence of improving delivery performance or flow (e.g. removing blockers, improving throughput, stabilising services).
- Strong experience coaching and developing Delivery Managers and teams.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage difficult delivery trade-offs.
- Strong organisational judgement and decision-making capability.
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-changing, high-pressure or ambiguous environments.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working in platform and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
