b Overview /b p In this Grade 7 role you will apply deep direct tax knowledge to complex cases across trading, property and miscellaneous income. You’ll lead technical work, advise colleagues, and shape HMRC’s position in disputes and policy development. You work closely with Counsel, courts, and cross‑government stakeholders to ensure robust, consistent outcomes. The role offers high‑profile advisory work with opportunity to influence policy and guidance while supporting colleagues across HMRC. This is a chance to contribute to a fair, effective tax system at scale. /p b Pay / Benefits /b ul li Civil Service Pension scheme contributions /li li Flexible and Hybrid Working options /li li Generous leave allowance (25–30 days) /li li Coaching and development /li li Personal support /li /ul b Responsibilities /b ul li Develop deep knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and case law and apply to novel scenarios /li li Provide authoritative technical advice and leadership on tax disputes and avoidance cases /li li Collaborate with legal colleagues to prepare arguments for Tribunals and higher courts /li li Build relationships with stakeholders across HMRC, HM Treasury, and other government bodies for policy development /li li Engage with operational and policy colleagues to ensure clear guidance and consistent understanding of rules /li li Advise on issues of political or ministerial interest and brief senior stakeholders /li li Contribute to team development and promote technical standards across BAI /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li Strong direct tax technical expertise across income tax and corporation tax /li li Ability to apply legislation and case law to complex or contested issues /li li Proven ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries /li li Clear and persuasive communication to diverse audiences /li li Capability to manage a varied workload with sound judgement /li li Experience supporting governance or litigation processes and interaction with Counsel /li /ul ul li Collaborative /li li Influencing /li li Proactive problem-solving /li li Direct tax legislation /li li Case law /li li Guidance and policy material /li /ul
