The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office, ensuring the best evidence and analysis are used to address strategic issues. You will be part of the Protection and Enforcement Analysis and Insight (PEAI) Unit within Home Office Analysis and Insight (HOAI), delivering evidence-based insights into policy change impacts for displaced, vulnerable and/or undocumented individuals.
This recruitment campaign has two Senior Operational Research roles to fill within the Asylum and Accommodation Analysis team that specialises in modelling demand, caseload and supply across the asylum and accommodation space. You will join an established operational research team as a senior operational research analyst delivering modelling and data analytics to support asylum and accommodation decision making.
Key responsibilities:
- Role 1 – Senior Operational Researcher in Asylum Support Accommodation Demand: Model demand for Asylum Accommodation using operational research techniques, scope and deliver new analytical requirements, build modelling capability and support team members. Work closely with policy and operational stakeholders to understand future demand for accommodation.
- Role 2 – Senior Operational Researcher in Asylum Accommodation Supply: Engage with stakeholders and analysts to scope and understand Asylum Accommodation supply requirements. Lead the implementation of model development plans to satisfy requirements of Ministers and stakeholders while ensuring that the model is up to date and maintained.
Eligibility: These roles are open to both external candidates who meet the requirements and existing Government Operational Research Service (GORS) members. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements for the profession.
Essential criteria:
- Existing member of GORS or hold the qualification to join the profession.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and application of a range of quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques.
- Experience delivering impactful analysis and presenting to a range of stakeholders.
- A track record of managing own analytical projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow members of the analytical community.
- Practical experience of programming languages (e.g. Python, R) or willingness to upskill.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience of working flexibly across analytical teams.
- Experience of line management or coaching/mentoring people.
Qualifications: A highly mathematical degree is required to join GORS.
