The Chief Digital Information Office delivers complex, high value products and platforms that support HMRC’s strategic goals and improve outcomes for millions of users. As an Agile Coach, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and elevating delivery capability across CDIO. You will champion modern Agile and Lean practices, foster high performing teams, and influence strategic approaches to delivery across a large and complex digital organisation.

As a G6 Agile Coach, you will work at organisational and portfolio level to embed effective, scalable Agile practices that enable predictable, user centred delivery. You will coach multidisciplinary teams, mentor Agile Delivery Managers and leaders, and help shape the cultural and behavioural foundations that support excellent digital delivery. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, Heads of Role, Product and Engineering leaders to drive continuous improvement, unblock systemic constraints, and support the evolution of delivery maturity across CDIO. You will also play a leading role in strengthening our Agile and delivery communities of practice, supporting professional development and capability uplift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Agile coaching across areas of CDIO, enabling consistent, high-quality Agile and Lean delivery practices.
  • Coach and mentor multidisciplinary teams to implement and improve predictability, flow, collaboration and delivery outcomes.
  • Develop capability across the Agile Delivery Management profession, coaching or line managing Agile Delivery Managers and Senior Agile Delivery Managers.
  • Facilitate workshops and strategic problem-solving sessions, enabling meaningful continuous improvement.
  • Advise and influence senior leaders, providing evidence based recommendations on delivery models, team structures and organisational improvements.
  • Strengthen and grow Agile and delivery communities of practice, fostering shared learning and professional excellence.
  • Champion a positive, inclusive and psychologically safe delivery culture, modelling desired behaviours and practices.
  • Identify and address systemic barriers to effective delivery, guiding teams and leaders toward long-term improvements.

Essential Criteria

  • Expert-level experience coaching Agile teams and leaders within large, complex digital organisations.
  • Extensive practical experience with Scrum, Kanban and Lean practices, applied across varied delivery contexts.
  • Strong experience improving delivery flow and predictability, using data and metrics to drive decisions.
  • Proven ability to coach multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, product and design roles.
  • Experience influencing and supporting senior stakeholders, providing clear, evidence based guidance.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, creating inclusive, high engagement workshops and ceremonies.
  • Experience building delivery capability, mentoring Delivery Managers and leading skills development.
  • Strong understanding of modern software delivery, DevOps ways of working and user centred design principles.
