Overview

In this role you support the Head of LDU Cluster within the National Probation Service, providing strategic leadership across the Local Delivery Unit. You will act as the cluster representative with external partners and staff, ensuring safeguarding and policy compliance. The role involves leading on operational priorities, driving staff development, and delivering action plans and audits. You will work with cross‑functional teams to strengthen performance and partnership working. This is an impactful position shaping probation services at a local scale.

Responsibilities

  • Cluster operational lead on caseload segmentation issues (e.g., CSE, Guns and Gangs, IOM)
  • Provide operational support on Probation Instruction criteria and rules (Recall, High Risk of Serious Harm case transfers)
  • Support Head of Cluster with HR processes (grievance, discipline, capability, complaints)
  • Oversee professional development of cluster staff and training needs
  • Recruitment and induction for cluster personnel
  • Lead on performance and quality, audits, and inspections
  • Contribute to reviews and action plans (Domestic Homicides, Serious Further Reviews, Serious Case Reviews)
  • Manage the Cluster Business Manager and admin support
  • Represent NPS in local strategic partnerships and wider frameworks
  • Participate in MAPPA level 3 meetings and chair where appropriate
  • Make decisions in the Head of LDU Cluster’s absence for offender management when required
  • Lead on divisional projects (Equality and Diversity, Reward and Recognition)
  • Ensure cluster Health and Safety compliance and estate management
  • Uphold safeguarding duties for children and adults
  • Align with NPS and HMPPS aims and values
