This is an exciting opportunity to join HMRC’s Enterprise Architecture team who are responsible for setting the architectural direction for HMRC as well as providing consultancy and support to solution architects.
As an Enterprise Data Architect working within the Enterprise Architecture team you will contribute towards the setting of Departmental wide Data strategy through architecture roadmaps and reference architectures as well as governing against these directions.
Reporting to the Senior Enterprise Data Architect and supporting the Lead Enterprise Data Architect, the role also supports and contributes to solution designs cutting across business, data, application and technology domains. You may also be involved in proof-of-concept exercises exploring new technologies.
You will be confident in your ability to play a key role in ensuring that HMRC develops and maintains a strong Data Architecture capability.
An Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for supporting the Senior Data Architect in defining data strategy and roadmaps, aligning them with business strategies and requirements, and securing senior stakeholder buy-in. The role supports the development of the Enterprise Data Model and HMRC’s wider data modelling capability, while documenting the organisation’s data assets to improve understanding, enable more effective integration of data, reduce legacy data silos, and support the transition of HMRC’s complex IT estate towards a smaller set of strategic systems.
Candidates should also bring an understanding of the data lifecycle and its implications for GDPR, experience in process modelling using BPMN and other modelling tools, and either hold, or be willing to work towards, professional IT qualifications such as TOGAF or CITP.
You will be:
- Working with colleagues to understand and help design operational considerations of solutions.
- Understanding HMRC systems and the technologies that deliver those systems.
- Understanding wider HMRC technology systems and strategies.
- Playing a supporting role and delivering specific technical data related aspects of the service delivery of HMRC systems.
- Contributing to the delivery Data Strategies, Principles, Standards and other Data Architecture deliverables and making them readily available to wider HMRC through collaboration tools.
- Contributing to the ongoing development and maintenance (evergreening) of the Enterprise Data Model, supporting programmes and projects in the definition of conceptual and logical models.
- Articulating data viewpoints to colleagues, senior management and business partners and Championing data architecture and appropriate business data use in HMRC systems.
Essential Criteria:
- A background in IT with demonstrable experience in Data.
- Experience in developing and governing Data Principles, Policies, Standards, Processes and/or Procedures.
- An understanding of how IT can be used to support the business.
- Experience in establishing professional relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to simplify complex / technical information by using appropriate and accessible language for non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate clearly.
- Experience in Data Modelling for operational and analytical systems, including conceptual models through to physical schema deployments.
