UKAS is seeking independent contractors for ISO 17065 Certification in the field of Windows and Doors (Fenestration) Installation. This role involves certifying the installation and maintenance of timber, plastic, metal, and composite windows and doors, including fire door sets with associated ironmongery (hinges, locks, closers, seals). Contractors should also be familiar with the Competent Persons Certification Scheme (TCC 6000.123).

Playing a pivotal role in the UKAS assessment process, our external Technical Assessors are instrumental in providing essential knowledge and ensuring rigorous assessments in these areas.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: HNC/HND or equivalent in engineering, construction, materials, or a scientific discipline.
  • Experience is prioritised over formal qualifications. If less experienced, a BSc or relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Certificate/Diploma in Fenestration Installation or Fenestration Installation & Surveying) is desirable.
  • Contractors with at least 10 years of experience and no formal diploma will also be considered, provided they demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • In-depth technical knowledge and practical experience in Windows and Doors (Fenestration) Installation.
  • Ability to understand and assess compliance with relevant standards, testing protocols, and inspections.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations, particularly the Building Regulations 2010 and amendments (SI 2010/2214 and SI 2012/3119).
  • Knowledge of product installations and controls for final products.
  • Aware of Certification Schemes for Windows and Doors (such as the Competent Persons Certification Scheme).
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17065 and UKAS accreditation processes is beneficial but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • Significant experience in the design, manufacturing, construction, testing, or inspection of Windows and Doors (Fenestration) Installation.
  • Ideally, contractors should have 5+ years of industry experience, though exceptions may be made for highly skilled candidates with less.
  • Prior involvement in a Competent Persons Certification Scheme would be an advantage.

This role is perfect for professionals with extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in fenestration who are looking for flexible, independent work in a dynamic and growing industry.

UKAS contracts independent technical assessors on a day rate basis; the level of work depends on the demands that our customers place on us, and therefore UKAS cannot guarantee specific levels of work.
