UKAS is seeking experienced professionals to join our team as Independent Technical Assessors. This role involves assessing organisations for conformity with ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065 in the field of electrical inspections and certification.
Key Areas of Assessment
ISO/IEC 17020 – Inspection Bodies
- Final inspection of general electrical manufactured items.
- Inspection and commissioning of fixed electrical wiring systems.
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
ISO/IEC 17065 – Certification of Electrical Installations
- Certification of electrical installations in accordance with BS 7671.
- Competent Persons Certification Scheme assessments.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Higher education qualification in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in a relevant field, such as electrical inspection, testing, or certification.
- Strong knowledge of UK and international electrical regulations, including:
- The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989).
- BS 7671 (Requirements for Electrical Installations).
- BS EN 60079 series (for potentially explosive atmospheres).
- Familiarity with relevant certification schemes such as NICEIC, NAPIT, or Competent Persons Certification Scheme.
Desirable Qualifications & Professional Standing
- Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) status preferred.
- Incorporated Engineer (I.Eng) or equivalent technical qualifications.
- Membership of a recognised engineering institution (e.g. IET).
Skills & Knowledge
- A thorough understanding of electrical installations, inspection, and certification processes.
- Knowledge of quality assurance procedures for electrical inspection bodies.
- Ability to evaluate compliance with ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation standards.
- Experience conducting assessments, audits, or technical reviews.
- Strong analytical, report‑writing, and communication skills.
Training & Development
- Training on UKAS assessment processes and ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065 will be provided.
- Previous experience in assessment or accreditation is advantageous but not essential.
