Job Opportunity: Asbestos Technical Assessor
Location: Remote, covering the UK
We are seeking an experienced External Technical Assessor with a strong background in asbestos testing and inspection.
As an External Technical Assessor, you will play a pivotal role in the UKAS assessment process, offering invaluable expertise essential for rigorous assessments in the asbestos sector.
Key Skills and Requirements
- Qualifications: Ideally, you will hold the BOHS Certificate of Competence in Asbestos (CoCA) or have completed most of the P401–P408 certifications. Equivalent qualifications will also be considered.
- Experience: Proven expertise in asbestos testing and/or inspection activities.
- Auditing: Experience in internal or external auditing, particularly to ISO/IEC17025 and ISO/IEC17020 standards, is desirable, although full training will be provided.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication abilities, enabling you to effectively liaise with testing and inspection personnel, senior management teams, and clients at all levels.
Technical Knowledge
- Comprehensive understanding of asbestos products, including their location, use, and condition assessment.
- Familiarity with sample handling, preparation techniques, and analysis methods (optical and/or electron microscopy) for asbestos fibres in bulk materials.
- Knowledge of AIMS, RICE, and other relevant Proficiency Testing Schemes.
- General knowledge of the homogeneity of products, appropriate sampling strategies, and associated health and safety considerations.
- Insight into asbestos survey processes, including survey planning, resourcing, technical specifications, quality control, and reporting.
- Familiarity with current asbestos regulations, codes of practice, and guidance, including the Analysts\’ Guide (HSG 248) and relevant MDHS documents.
