UKAS is the UK's National Accreditation Body, responsible for assessing organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Our focus is on conformity assessment, ensuring technical competence and integrity across a wide range of sectors.
The Role
We are seeking Independent Technical Assessors with expertise in:
- Toxicology (including workplace drug testing)
- Analytical Chemistry (e.g. testing of soils, waters, air, metals, fuels, coatings)
- Occupational Hygiene (e.g. exposure monitoring, workplace assessments)
- Asbestos Testing and Sampling (e.g. bulk analysis, air monitoring, fibre counting)
Assessors will support UKAS assessments by evaluating technical competence, data integrity, and quality control practices. You will be part of a team conducting ISO/IEC 17025 assessments, reviewing documentation, witnessing tests, and providing expert input.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from professionals with:
- Proven experience in one or more of the above fields
- Strong understanding of analytical techniques (wet chemistry and instrumental)
- Familiarity with occupational hygiene practices and relevant matrices
- Knowledge of industry standards and sector schemes
- Experience in ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environments
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to assess data performance, integrity, and quality control
- Experience in internal or external auditing (training available)
Desirable areas include:
- Method validation and traceability
- Risk-based assessment approaches
- Technical judgement in complex laboratory settings
Contract Details
Day rate basis, either self-employed or via current employer. Flexible workload based on customer demand.
