We work with independent technical experts on a contract basis and are currently seeking experienced immunology professionals to support ISO 15189:2022 assessments of medical laboratories and point-of-care testing services.

About the Role

As a Technical Assessor, you will form part of an assessment team evaluating medical laboratories against ISO 15189:2022. You will use your immunology expertise to review technical activity, quality systems and clinical effectiveness within laboratory services. You will assess areas such as:

  • Immunology testing, examination records, procedures and reports
  • Staff competency across technical, scientific and, where relevant, clinical activities
  • Laboratory quality systems, including IQC, EQA, validation, verification and reporting processes
  • Clinical interpretation and advice on immunology results, where applicable

What we’re looking for:

We are interested in professionals with strong practical and/or clinical experience in immunology, particularly those with:

  • Significant experience in a clinical immunology laboratory or service
  • Experience supporting diagnosis or monitoring of immunodeficiency, autoimmune conditions or allergy
  • Experience in laboratory reporting and/or clinical advice on immunology results
  • Strong understanding of IQC, EQA, validation, verification and laboratory quality systems
  • Confidence working with laboratory staff, clinicians, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams

Typical backgrounds and registration

  • Biomedical Scientist, Senior Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist working in immunology
  • Consultant Immunologist with experience in laboratory oversight and clinical reporting
  • Specialists in allergy, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, flow cytometry, autoimmune serology or allergy testing
  • HCPC or GMC registration is desirable; IBMS or Royal College of Pathologists membership, including FRCPath, is advantageous

Technical Expertise

You should have practical experience with a range of immunology techniques, including ELISA/EIA, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, immunoassays or multiplex platforms, and protein analysis techniques such as electrophoresis or immunofixation. You should also understand testing principles and limitations, method validation and verification, laboratory instrumentation, analysers and end-to-end laboratory processes from sample receipt through to reporting. Familiarity with ISO 15189:2012 or ISO 15189:2022 is desirable.
