To support the Management Accountant and Financial Controller in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting across the business. The Junior Management Accountant will assist with core month-end processes, reconciliations, and data gathering activities, building a strong foundation in management accounting whilst developing their skills within a fast-paced infrastructure environment.
Accountability
The Junior Management Accountant is accountable for supporting the accuracy and completeness of financial records in accordance with Group policies and internal procedures. They will assist in the delivery of monthly financial processes, maintain clear documentation, and provide reliable support to the wider Pillar finance team.
Specific Responsibilities
- Labour Recoveries
- Prepare monthly labour recovery journals, ensuring all costs are accurately captured and allocated across the relevant contracts and cost centres.
- Coordinate with operational and project teams to obtain timesheets and other supporting data required for recovery calculations.
- Reconcile labour recovery totals against payroll and HR data, escalating discrepancies to the Management Accountant in a timely manner.
- Maintain clear and organised workings for all labour recovery calculations, ensuring a complete audit trail.
- Support continuous improvement of the labour recovery process, identifying gaps in data completeness and working with wider teams to address them.
- Trial Balance Reconciliations & Month-End Support
- Carry out monthly trial balance reconciliations, confirming that all standard month-end processes have been completed and correctly posted.
- Review the trial balance for missing or unusual postings, querying discrepancies with the Management Accountant as appropriate.
- Prepare and post routine journals including accruals, prepayments, and recharges under the direction of the Management Accountant.
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations to agreed timetables, ensuring supporting schedules are accurate and up to date.
- Support the month-end close timetable, flagging any risks to deadlines promptly.
- Pillar Finance Support & Ad Hoc Queries
- Act as a responsive point of contact for ad hoc finance queries from operational teams, escalating where necessary.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and analysis as requested by the Management Accountant or Financial Controller.
- Support the collation of data for budget and forecast submissions, working with budget holders to gather accurate inputs.
- Assist with VAT, CIS, and other compliance-related data gathering as required.
- Contribute to finance team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives, bringing a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Systems & Process
- Maintain accurate records within Business Central ERP, ensuring postings are correctly coded and authorised.
- Use Microsoft Excel to prepare and maintain financial schedules, reconciliations, and workings.
- Follow documented finance processes and procedures, supporting knowledge retention across the team.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing processes and raise suggestions with the Management Accountant.
