Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Affinity Water Contract (Various Sites)

Reporting To: Senior Quantity Surveyor

Role Purpose

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial management of water infrastructure projects delivered under the Affinity Water framework. Working closely with the commercial and operational teams, the role focuses on cost control, contract administration and financial reporting while gaining exposure to all aspects of project commercial delivery within the utilities sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of applications for payment and supporting documentation.
  • Support cost capture, allocation and tracking across multiple projects.
  • Contribute to cost value reconciliation (CVR) processes and reporting.
  • Assist in administering contracts (NEC or similar), ensuring compliance.
  • Support identification and preparation of compensation events and variations.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.
  • Assist in procurement process for subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Support preparation of subcontract orders and documentation.
  • Help manage subcontractor accounts, including valuations and payments.
  • Assist with budget monitoring, forecasting and cost reporting.
  • Track project costs and highlight variances, risks and opportunities.
  • Help prepare monthly financial reports and performance summaries.
  • Collaborate with site teams, engineers and project managers.
  • Support communication with Affinity Water representatives and supply chain partners.
  • Develop strong working relationships across project teams.
  • Support identification of commercial risks and mitigation actions.
  • Ensure company procedures and governance are followed.
  • Maintain organised and auditable commercial records.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Some experience in a commercial, construction or utilities environment (placement or graduate role acceptable).
  • Basic understanding of quantity surveying principles and cost management.
  • Awareness of NEC contracts (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Degree qualified or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • Desire to work towards professional accreditation (RICS/CICES).
