About the role
Reporting to the Environmental Lead, the Senior Environmental Adviser supports the environmental controls and mitigations for a major 80km transmission project in the Scottish Highlands. The role operates from the Alness main site office and divides time between the office and project work sites, providing technical guidance and ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of the company's environmental strategy and management approach.
- Provide technical support to facilitate the Contract Environmental Management Plan, ensuring environmental aspects are identified and managed.
- Assist in identifying, understanding and communicating the legal, industry and contractual environmental obligations for the project and its contractors.
- Develop and deliver training on key environmental topics to raise awareness across the business.
- Work with assurance teams to conduct environmental inspections and audits as required on the project.
- Provide support on a broad range of environmental management issues such as peat management, water management, species protection and other environmental constraints.
- Give technical environmental advice to project management and workforce to ensure compliance with the Contract Environmental Management Plan.
- Assist with the investigation and reporting of environmental incidents and monitor trends for mitigation.
- Manage the deployment and monitoring of environmental technical contractors (ecology and archaeology), collate their reports and advise on solutions that affect the project programme.
- Carry out environmental walk‑overs to identify project‑impacted aspects, recommended controls and mitigations.
- Review RAMS and risk assessments for environmental impact and suitability of controls.
- Liaise with the Environmental Lead regarding on‑site activities, controls, alerts and other environmental matters.
- Work closely with the Environmental Lead to develop, maintain and implement qualifications and standards.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant environmental discipline (desirable).
- Minimum of 3 years experience as an Environmental Adviser, Environmental Clerk of Works, or similar role on construction projects of similar scale (desirable).
- Professional membership of a recognised environmental body (desirable).
- Ability to collate and interpret environmental performance data.
- Practical environmental monitoring skills.
- Authoring environmental management processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of UK/Scottish consenting and environmental legislation.
- Experience with environmental awareness training, inspection and auditing.
- Possession of a valid driving licence.
- Excellent communication and literacy skills.
- Proficient in all aspects of MS Office.
