Job Description
We are looking for an Apprentice to join the Estimating team. The apprentice calculates construction project costs, taking into account labour, material, and equipment requirements; negotiates with suppliers; obtains subcontractor quotes; and compiles detailed cost proposals.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation, production, distribution, and analysis of subcontractor/supplier/consultant enquiries and returns, ensuring all appropriate information is included and reviewed.
- Send tender enquiries to supply chain partners promptly.
- Compare supply chain quotations.
- Prepare accurate take‑offs from bid drawings.
- Compile and present statistical data for pricing/bid analysis.
- Assist with site measurements for different trade packages.
- Support the Estimator in constructing accurate, competitive, and timely bid submissions.
- Develop understanding and application of company systems, including Conquest Estimating/ take‑off software packages.
- File and distribute documents and drawings.
- Prepare Tender Summary documents.
- Learn the tender process from initial enquiry to handover.
- Assist with administrative functions of the Estimating department.
- Develop an understanding of construction methods and materials and their application.

Training & Apprenticeship
As part of your apprenticeship you will be enrolled in the Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship, delivered by one of our training partners. Dedicated study time will be provided each week, through lectures, learning materials, and one‑to‑one support from a tutor or coach. Upon successful completion you will be awarded a Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship, a Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, and qualify for TechCIOB‑L4 professional accreditation. You will also be supported to progress to the Level 6 Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship programme.
Qualifications
- A level 3 qualification such as A Levels, T Level, or equivalent, with a minimum of 104 UCAS Tariff points.
- 5 GCSEs at Grade 9‑4/A*‑C including English and Mathematics.
- Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Good organisation, time management, and communication skills.
- Driving licence, or be working towards achieving this.
Start Date & Commitment
Available to start full‑time work in September 2026. The commitment to live and breathe United Infrastructure’s values during work and studies. The motivation and dedication to successfully complete the apprenticeship programme.
Please note, as this is an apprenticeship programme, eligibility requires you not to already have an equivalent level or higher qualification in the occupational area, or significant work experience.
