Job Description – Payroll Senior Officer
Purpose
The payroll senior is responsible for managing and processing payroll activities accurately and efficiently across the organisation, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and internal policies. This role requires proven experience managing payroll during business acquisitions or integrations. The payroll senior will act as a key point of contact for payroll queries, process improvement, and support during transition periods.
Duties
- Manage and process monthly and weekly payrolls using Sage.
- Ensure all statutory deductions (PAYE, NIC, pensions, etc.) are accurate and timely.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and produce detailed reports for finance.
- Work closely with HR and finance departments to ensure accurate payroll data.
- Support payroll integrations for newly acquired entities.
- Migrate payroll data from legacy systems into Sage.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and HMRC regulations.
- Collaborate with the wider shared service centre team.
- Identify and implement payroll process efficiencies and automation opportunities.
- Assist the Payroll Manager with department administrative duties.
Qualifications
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years in a payroll position.
- Experience with outsourcing and in‑house payrolls.
- Sage experience.
- Strong payroll knowledge.
- Accurate, numerate, and computer‑literate in Excel.
- Dedicated and diligent attitude.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately within deadlines, with attention to detail.
- Enthusiastic and able to work as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal skills (confidentiality).
