As one of the fastest-growing and highest-rated commercial energy suppliers in the UK, United Gas and Power (“UGP”) is seeking a Regulatory Reporting Lead to join its Regulation and Compliance team. This is a newly strengthened role at the centre of UGP's regulatory assurance framework, with responsibility for coordinating, assuring and delivering a varied portfolio of recurring, annual, ad hoc and emerging regulatory submissions.

Reporting to the Head of Regulation and Compliance, the successful candidate will own the end-to-end reporting process: planning each return, agreeing data ownership, coordinating contributors and approvers, obtaining and populating data, performing assurance checks, securing sign-off, submitting through the relevant channel and managing any subsequent questions, corrections or resubmissions. The role is the single point of coordination for regulatory reporting across UGP.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, assure and deliver UGP’s regulatory reporting obligations, working closely with colleagues across the business to ensure accurate, timely and well-controlled submissions.
  • Own and maintain the regulatory reporting calendar, reporting catalogue, forward plan and ownership matrix for recurring, annual, ad hoc and emerging obligations.
  • Coordinate each reporting cycle from planning through to submission, ensuring clear deadlines, contributors, reviewers, approvers and escalation routes are in place.
  • Gather, consolidate and challenge data from business and system owners, ensuring inputs are complete, accurate, reconciled, evidenced and suitable for submission.
  • Interpret regulatory instructions, licence requirements and reporting guidance, translating them into clear methodologies, validation rules and practical requirements for colleagues.
  • Maintain robust audit trails, evidence packs, version control, approvals and post-submission records for every material return.
  • Work with IT, data owners and operational teams to improve data extraction, automation, reporting controls and data quality across key reporting processes.
  • Identify reporting risks, data-quality issues, unusual movements, omissions or inconsistencies, and agree corrective action with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare concise assurance summaries, dashboards and status updates for the Head of Regulation and Compliance, senior management and Board approvers where required.
  • Act as a central coordination point for regulatory reporting queries, corrections, resubmissions, RFIs and follow-up requests from Ofgem and other industry bodies.
  • Support continuous improvement by documenting processes, embedding lessons learned, reducing manual handling and strengthening business continuity arrangements.

The Individual:

  • Highly organised, detail-focused individual who can take ownership of complex reporting activity and bring structure, clarity and confidence to regulatory submissions.
  • Comfortable working with data, interpreting detailed requirements and coordinating input from colleagues across different teams.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting, compliance, audit, risk, data assurance, financial reporting or another controlled reporting environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, with confidence working with complex datasets, reconciliations, trends, exceptions and control totals.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple fixed deadlines and coordinate contributors, reviewers and approvers.
  • Confident interpreting detailed guidance and translating it into practical reporting requirements, methodologies and controls.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively, escalate risks clearly and engage with senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to learn reporting systems, portals and data tools quickly.
  • A proactive, improvement-focused mindset, with an interest in strengthening processes, documentation, automation and data quality.
  • Energy-sector experience would be beneficial, but we also welcome candidates from other regulated industries with relevant reporting or assurance experience.
