Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment

£35,076.00 - £43,624.00 per annum including London Weighting Allowance. In exceptional circumstances a specialist market supplement may be available subject to industrial and teaching experience up to a maximum of £9,561 in addition to the salary listed.

We are seeking an ambitious, outstanding candidate to join our teaching staff at United Colleges Group. We are a forward-thinking education provider and our mission is to deliver outstanding, world class education and skills.

UCG provides education to over 11,000 learners a year, including 16–18-year-olds, adults, apprentices, and students with high needs. We offer education and training in almost all vocational areas at a variety of levels for a wide range of learners of all ages and starting points.

UCG attracts students from across London and beyond. Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds. In the academic year 2023-24, we enrolled more than 3500 full time 16-18 students, 8,000 adult learners and over 450 apprentices across our Group. UCG currently enrol 250+ HE students per year, across 4 campuses onto 12 courses from STEM subjects (Science, Construction, Engineering, and Computing) to Business, Music and Professional Qualifications.

We have around 1,000 dedicated, skilled and enthusiastic staff who always put the needs of our students first and we are now looking for a Lecturer in Engineering to join our cohort of dedicated staff. Our mission is to provide all our learners with the very best knowledge and to break down any barriers to learning. We pride ourselves on enabling our learners to meet their individual needs and aspirations and we deliver a learning experience that is unique, enjoyable and rewarding.

UCG is one of very few training centres in the London region to have fully accredited equipment and facilities to deliver courses in Engineering, Construction & the Built Environment. We are considered a leading London training provider in these specialisms.

As a result, students and apprentices from the boroughs and wider community join the College to receive training from highly experienced experts in the sector. We welcome applications from candidates with industry experience who are ready to move into Further Education.

About You

The successful applicant will help coordinate the effective delivery of the T-Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing with occupational specialisms in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. In addition, the role will include teaching on our BTEC National Diplomas and Level 2 Extended Certificate.

You will provide academic leadership for students, creating provision that is engaging, relevant and coherent and in line with local and national priorities. You will develop and maintain up to date industry skills and knowledge, bringing in engineering professionals, where possible, that are relevant to the curriculum and the employability and skills needs of students.

You will support and motivate learners to meet their individual aspirations and goals and will coordinate the tracking of learners’ achievements. In your role you will lead study programmes to attain outstanding student retention, achievement and progression.

You will have sound organisational skills, and your ability to work cooperatively and contribute positively and creatively to a team is essential. Relevant mechanical or general engineering experience and qualifications and strong knowledge of CAD/SOLIDWORKS are also essential.

We welcome candidates with industry experience, and you will have the opportunity to work towards a teaching qualification. The role will require you to work towards a recognised Level 4 teaching qualification (PGCE/CertEd) or be willing to work towards a Level 5 teaching qualification upon appointment.
