Are you an experienced Structural Engineer looking for more influence, more variety, and a clearer route to shaping the future of a growing consultancy? Our client is a small, ambitious engineering consultancy based in Bristol, delivering high-quality structural design across residential, commercial, education, and mixed-use projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we’re looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to play a key role in leading projects, mentoring engineers, and helping drive the business forward.

The Role

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you’ll take ownership of projects from concept through to delivery, working closely with clients, architects, and contractors. You’ll have the opportunity to lead a talented team while remaining hands‑on technically.

Responsibilities of this Principal Structural Engineer include:

  • Leading structural design on a range of building projects
  • Managing project delivery, budgets, and client relationships
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and technicians
  • Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to business development and helping grow the Bristol office
  • Ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards

About You

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with leadership and commercial awareness. To be considered for this Principal Structural Engineer role you will have:

  • Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE or MICE)
  • Significant UK consultancy experience
  • Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry design
  • Experience leading projects and managing clients independently
  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
  • A proactive, collaborative approach
