About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including children and young people who may have experienced trauma and adversity. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping pupils thrive both academically and personally within a nurturing and supportive environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCo, Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff to deliver tailored educational and emotional support through both one‑to‑one and group provision.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the holistic development of pupils with SEND and additional needs.
- Build safe, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Support the delivery of learning activities and interventions.
- Assist with planning, preparation and assessment alongside teaching staff.
- Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and restorative approaches.
- Help pupils develop social, emotional and life skills to support future independence and transitions.
- Work collaboratively with parents/carers and external professionals where required.
- Support safeguarding procedures and maintain a vigilant approach to pupil welfare.
- Attend staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Provide flexible support across the school as required, including covering for absent colleagues.
- Support off‑site educational visits and activities.

Essential Skills & Experience
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Understanding of the impact of trauma and adversity on child development.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in a fast‑paced and sometimes challenging environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Good literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively manage personal wellbeing in emotionally demanding situations.
- Confidence using ICT to support learning and communication.
- Willingness to participate in training and continued professional development.
- Ability and willingness to use physical intervention, where required, in line with policy and training.
Desirable
- Experience working within a school or SEND environment.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and reflective practice.
- Understanding of child development and learning processes.
